How To Delete Fonts For Windows

November 29, 2017

This guide will show you how to delete fonts off of your Windows computer.

We've all been there. You're looking through your fonts to find the perfect choice...but there's just so much crap in the list that your search is frustratingly hard. Or maybe you have decided it's time to part ways with your Def Leppard tribute font. Whatever the reason, deleting fonts is super easy once you know how to do it.

Here's how to do it.

1. Open File Explorer. To open File Explorer quickly, hold down the Windows button and press "E". If you're not into hotkeys, there should be a Folder icon on your bottom taskbar that you can click on.

2. Open the Fonts program. Click on the address bar of the File Explorer and type in "shell:fonts". Then press "Enter". The Fonts program should open up.

 3. Select the Font you want to delete. The Fonts program will allow you to scroll through your list of installed fonts. When you find the font you want to delete, click on it to select it. Then click on the "Delete" button.

Quick Tip
If you have multiple fonts you want to delete, you can select multiple fonts at a time. Hold down the "Ctrl" key as you click on fonts. When you press the "Delete" button, it will delete all of the selected fonts at one time.

4. Confirm you want to delete the font. Click on the "Yes" button to confirm that you wan t to proceed.

That's it! The font you just deleted will no longer show up on your system. Isn't it nice to declutter!?!?

Quick Tip
If any of your design programs were open while deleting fonts, you will need to restart your design program. Design programs will scan your computer's list of installed fonts only one time, when the application launches. You may have weird behavior in your design programs until you restart them.
